Hello parents! Our little red wigglers have arrived and we will be building our habitats next week in class. As you probably know, we have been studying systems, primarily ecosystems, the past couple weeks. Our focus has been understanding how an ecosystem works through food chains and food webs with the work of producers, consumers and decomposers. Over the course of the next few weeks, the students will be observing these little decomposers in their habitats and see the important role they play in our ecosystem and the environment. We need your help! I will be sending home a "menu" of what these little ones like to eat. It's pretty much the scraps from our fruit, veggies, etc. You will notice they have some favorites listed:) We are also in need of newspaper, preferable black and white sections only. I'm asking the students to bring in a few of these items starting on Monday. We will have a shared bin for all 150 worms! The kids are super excited about it!
As I stated in my previous post, students will be completing short check-ins and responses based on the current content. The students will be taking their first check-in assessment for this unit of study on Monday. Students are being advised to study their notes which include, the food webs, food chains and focus questions. As long as students have been in class and participating in our food web investigations, I have not doubt they will be successful!
